Agrarian Enclave Mingle: Oca Street Bathhouse

Agrarian Enclave: The Oca Street Bathhouse

This mingle is OTA and can be used like a mini-TDM or meme!

This is another mingle set in Magisteria's Agrarian Enclave, or the Agriculture District. For maximum thirst, it can be combined with the first Enclave mingle, specifically the ambrosial honey. Visitors are welcome to play it as their characters exploring both, either individually or together!

Known throughout the district as a haven for relaxation and wellness, the Oca Street Bathhouse features luxurious hot springs, invigorating steam rooms, and therapeutic pools infused with herbal extracts, all housed in/among rooms with soft, ambient lighting. Visitors may select from among a wide number of "Aqua Aromatics" to produce different sensory experiences.

The Oca Street Bathhouse also offers an impressive number of massage options derived from Otherworlders' ancestral cultures. Whatever your desire, every aspect of the bathhouse is fully customizable for all patrons, lending to a wholesale self-care experience.

[Below are some ideas to get everyone started, though players are of course free to make up their own massage options, bathing rituals, and aromatics! A world like Magisteria would of course have options beyond those from Earth history, but I kept it simple here. Again, feel free to add more!]

PCs are free to handwave interactions with amorous locals or with workers at the establishment, who are trained in full-service massage+pleasure work. Random one-off NPCs can be made for this purpose in the location, so go wild!

Plot Key

At some point, Otherworlders might encounter a worker who looks a little uncertain. She’s conversing with elf guy (likely also a worker there).

Otherworlders may overhear the worker say that lately certain of their clientele had been behaving a bit strangely. Unfamiliar women arriving and … there was talk of induction into some group. Otherworlders will overhear her saying she did manage to collect digital business cards for certain individuals/the organization.

If Otherworlders listen closely, they’ll hear concern: these people were kind of giving off… culty vibes.

PCs are free to approach and ask about those business cards... Simply reply to "Plot Key" below.

[Note: This plot clue relates to an ongoing game plot in the works. It may be a little confusing to new players, but any are free to ask into the clue/pursue details.]

1. Hinoki Wood Bath
Okay. Okay, there's a snowball's chance in hell that William is missing out on a chance to experience an onsen derived from his previous country of origin. Even though he has well and truly adapted to his new life (and life in Magisteria), surely he can be allowed this tiny, little indulgence?

The best time for a bath is, of course, after a good training session. He comes in after his usual routine, muscles aching and smelling...well, probably like someone who has just emerged from a gym. But that will soon be rectified!

William strips down without any self-consciousness at all, wrapping a towel around his waist for courtesy's sake before heading to the showers to do a pre-bath rinse. Those in the same area may hear him humming a quiet but happy little tune to himself as he goes through the motions. Once he feels clean, he finally makes his way over to the wooden baths and slips in with a deep sigh of satisfaction. If possible, he'd pick a spot that's unoccupied, but with how popular this place seems to be with the locals, it's possible he's picked a spot next to another Otherworlder.

"Hot baths really are the best... Don't you think?"
2. Elemental Stone Massage
With his nostalgia satisfied, he decides to try something different on another day. Massages are not really something he's experienced, so he opts for one that seems the least invasive to start with.

"I wonder if this could improve our ability to use magic," he wonders aloud to whoever may be next to him. "If it's like acupuncture which is meant to target key points on the body, then an elemental stone massage would do something similar, right...?"

Although it might be seen as rude, when presented with a hypothesis, Erichthonios finds it difficult to ignore a chance to delve into matters of theory.

"I cannot say that I am familiar with acupuncture, though I daresay a stone will be less precise than a puncturing instrument. Mayhap it means to use increased pressure over a general area or an exchange of heat into the tissues... 'Twould work well to balance a body whose aspect has shifted too far towards ice. Or one overly tense."

Hand poised at his chin, Erichthonios continues to ponder aloud.

"If the difficulty in using magick stems from an imbalance in the body that would be corrected with a fire-aspected heat, it may very well improve one's ability. Although care will be needed to make certain the body does not fall into imbalance again..."
strength_of_will: (17 You're sure?)

[personal profile] strength_of_will 2024-09-30 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm... Is an elemental imbalance a common condition where you're from?" he asks curiously. "It's not a problem mages of our world have to think about. Instead we have to be careful not to over-extend and kill ourselves with our Words."

[personal profile] beshackled 2024-09-30 06:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"...Your Words?" he speaks in echo of the other's statement, a look of confusion writ upon his countenance.

"A depletion in one's aether can happen where I am from, and one can alter their aetherial balance by taking in too much of a particular element... but I have not heard of words causing one to die. How... does that happen?"

"What we call 'Words' refers to the language used by the gods when they created the world. The power and effectiveness they have is determined by their speaker. If you're interrupted mid-Word, the spell can backfire on the caster and kill them. If you don't keep an even temper while speaking, your spells might behave erratically, drain your magic, and kill you."

He raises a hand. By now, he's had a portion of magic restored to him so he can actually demonstrate.

"For example, if I say ignis..." A small flame appears above his hand. "That's the word for 'fire'. It captures everything about the concept of 'fire' and the caster can shape it into an offensive spell with focus."

Observing with rapt attention, Erichthonios hears and sees all that which occurs. A most intriguing adaptation.

"I see. So it is through your words that you manipulate the energies required to channel the spell into manifesting."

He pauses, contemplating.

"...we do not require the spoken word to channel our magick. 'Tis more through gesture that we accomplish such feats, drawing from our own energies. Our aether."

"To be fair, it doesn't have to be spoken. It can be written instead."

William draws the Word 'ignis' in the air and glowing script appears where he traces. Another small burst of fire flashes before him.

"How do you control your magic if you only need gestures?" he asks, curious.

"The gestures aid us in guiding our aether, that we may weave it into spells, or into the act of creation."

He pauses, contemplating how to explain it so that it translates well into what the other understands.

"You may... think of it as bending our aether directly into the patterns that your Words would invoke. 'Tis something that comes naturally to our kind, though a few of us struggle more than others."

"Interesting... That's just like RPG magic..."

He realises he's said that aloud and quickly attempts to recover.

"Um! I mean, it sounds very flexible. You can do anything you want with it as long as you can visualise it, right?"

Narrator: he was not wrong

[personal profile] beshackled 2024-10-20 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
He tilts his head, a curios look flitting over his features at the terminology. But his new... acquaintance? Friend? Seems to be keen on moving on with the discussion.

"Nearly so, yes. There are things beyond our abilities, few though they are, and 'tis common for a person to be more adept in certain forms of magick over others. There is also the matter of becoming distracted during the visualization process, leading to... unexpected results."
strength_of_will: (19 Big smile)

[personal profile] strength_of_will 2024-10-24 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hmm, I see... In a sense, it's better for one of your people to specialise in a certain type of magic otherwise they may confuse themselves while visualising a spell."

He thinks about Gus' strict lessons on magic, how some mages became engrossed with high level, powerful spells, which left them wide open to enemy attack.

"...What's the funniest mistake you've seen?"
beshackled: (pic#16081911)

[personal profile] beshackled 2024-10-27 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Head dipping, Erichthonios considers for a moment. "I've not personally seen mistakes I would consider to be funny... but there have been tales of oddities that have sprung up when using creation magicks. The flying fish, for example."

Lifting his head to meet the other fellow's gaze, Erichthonios gestures whilst explaining. "A magos, striving to create a fish, was suprised in the midst of channeling their magick. To their greater astonishment, the newly-created fish took flight into the skies."
strength_of_will: (51 Hey there)

[personal profile] strength_of_will 2024-10-31 04:14 pm (UTC)(link)
His eyes widen. Then he bursts out laughing.

"Really? That's how the flying fish came about? Hahaha!"

In his old world, all creatures came about due to evolution and natural selection. In his current world, the spoken races all descended from the gods. And in Erichthonios' world, apparently his people simply...made creatures appear.

"So it actually flew? The flying fish I'm familiar with just skip over the water's surface as if they're flying. They don't actually take flight."
beshackled: (pic#16084244)

[personal profile] beshackled 2024-11-26 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
"Aye, and for better or for worse, it may have inspired similar flying creations. The flying shark, for example."

He's not sure if that one ultimately passed the assessment for fitness for distribution. Hopefully, if it did, it is a smaller shark. Something large with that many sharp teeth flying about would surely be a source of untold numbers of problems... particularly since more than one iteration of the concept had a habit of test biting... pretty much everything.
strength_of_will: (53 WHAT)

[personal profile] strength_of_will 2024-12-11 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
"Th-the flying shark?"

That sounds horrifying and it shows in his face.

"But how is a shark supposed to fly through the air? Isn't it too heavy? It would need to be smaller and-- and have lighter bones!"
beshackled: (pic#16409949)

[personal profile] beshackled 2025-01-04 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
This fellow is quite astute, 'twould seem.

"Right you are. With the basic configuration of a shark's body, dense with cartilage and musculature, 'tis a weighty concept indeed. Which is why its creator imbued it with the capacity to manipulate wind aether in addition to altering the size and shape of its fins."

The smile disappears in a sigh, Erichthonios flopping back against his seat, head tipping up.

"Less fortunately for those that had to contend with it, it still possessed the same number and sharpness of teeth as its notorious seaborne kin."

Why couldn't it have been a flying whale shark?
strength_of_will: (29 Headscratch)

[personal profile] strength_of_will 2025-01-16 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
So, magic then, William surmises. But regardless of the 'how', the thought of sharks flying through the air is a terrifying one. William shakes his head, utterly bemused.

"They already have an entire sea of fish to eat, there's no need to have it fly and eat the birds as well..."

He slumps back as well. For better or worse, it's at this point that he's called up by the staff - and he still hasn't made up his mind yet! Oops. He jolts to his feet, giving Erichthonios a hurried wave.

"Sorry, that's me. Let's talk more again later, yeah?"
