Feel free to create an appearance for the shield.] The shield is powered by the sleek, industrial Bios which powers the tech weapons of Magisteria, making it especially durable, and because of its nature as a cybernetic weapon, it might be possible to link it to other interfaces or find creative ways of tying it to other tech.
It also would make an excellent magi-tech combination with Emet's sword, the Aelia Lucent.
