Questboard: May of 2024

Quest Board: Month of May/Luminarae

Welcome to the May Questboard! Please read the notes before diving into the quests.

Notes: Originally, I was planning to divvy quests along the tech/magic line. However, with the game's small size, I think it would be better to assume these quests are open to all players in the game. Some may be more oriented around one side or the other, but they can be accomplished by people of both/either side. Cooperation is encouraged for many quests!

THE SPECIAL PROMO QUEST IS OTA, including guests/visitors!

The High Risk Quest will appear SOON, hence the ⌛.

Special Promo: Canon Spotlight Quest

The SPECIAL PROMO QUEST is an OTA mingle which doubles as EMP/ATP for a canon. To kick off this experimental quest, we're beginning with the canon of Honkai Star Rail. Other canons will appear in future special promo quests!

Flora & Fauna-Themed Quests

🫐 Berry Bonanza: Evergreen Terrace in Chaos

Ava Nguyen is the normie genius head of the maintenance department at the apartments. She’s a well-rounded techie whose hobbies range from fashion and travel photography to singing and dancing. Lately, she’s picked up a new hobby: baking.

Ava baked some berry muffins with the Variable Hexberries and another variety of berries, Neon Berries. So far as anyone knows, Neon Berries are just regular strawberries with some added color, but no one has ever tried making a dish with both berries before.

Unfortunately, Ava’s experimentation goes a bit awry when it turns out the Hexberries trigger some latent property in the Neon Berries and vice-versa. Specifically, the Neon Berries cause the status effects of the Hexberries to begin activating and rapidly cycling through one another and intensifying, all uncontrollably.

Double unfortunately, Ava’s berry muffins have been consumed by a lot of people/things, everyone from Malik to the cryptofish/NFTs (crumbs) and the Woofaloomps. Now much of Evergreen Terrace is experiencing some Willy Wonka tier shit: cycling rapidly among hair/eye/skin color changes, glowing body parts, levitation, attracting butterflies. Ava herself is not present, having presented the muffins and then rolled out to one of her other many tech jobs, but Otherworlders will receive a very concerned call from Atlas.

Objective: Otherworlders will need to create or find an alchemical potion to remove these magical berry effects. As for the finding part, remember: “Fairy Dust,” in Eden 6, sells potions/elixirs. But there might be un-cursed magic denizens around the complex who would have potions or elixirs on hand. Tech PCs can help by creating something to help dispense the potion, i.e. a simple spray device.

Reward: ☕3 months of discounts at The Bean and Berry
💰300 in virtual currency.

✩☽ 💐 Guardians of the Glow: Safeguard the Nightglow Flowers

As summer comes to the city-state of Magisteria, the annual Nightglow Flower Festival draws near. This festival resembles a nighttime botanical garden display, except that the flowers themselves are glowing with magical Bios. Nightglow Flowers bloom across the city-state and the Festival occurs within all districts, but this quest will mostly see Otherworlders sent to Agrarian Enclave to collect basketfuls of Nightglows to bring to High Rise Village.

Normally, collecting the flowers is as simple as cutting/taking, but this year, the wildlife and some of the local magical beings are behaving a bit strangely with regards to the Nightglows. Everything ranging from little pixie sprites to nocturnal predators are emerging and taking bushels of Nightglows, or even sometimes outright eating them as though they were fruits. This is abnormal behavior, and the locals suspect it’s not the flowers, but the Bios within them which is making the fauna and sprites behave this way. It's almost as if they're especially hungry for Bios.

Otherworlders are encouraged to find non-violent means of pacifying the local wildlife: whether it’s carrying vials of concentrated Bios energy and trading it for Nightglows, or even supplying the creatures with the excess Bios that Otherworlders can create from their own bodies via Synthesis, in exchange for the Nightglow Flowers, which Otherworlders are to help procure for the festival.

Objective: Safeguard the nightglow flowers from anything drawn to them, collect nightglows, and return to High Rise Village with them.

Potential predators: Little sprites (harmless), Shadow Creatures (potential to pose danger), ominvorous Bios Eaters. Most shadow creatures are mutated night versions of regular creatures: a shadow deer or a shadow elephant, for example. Those giant shadow bats? Shadow Spirits, the forest entities who preside over and possibly create these mysterious nighttime versions of animals.

Reward: 💰3000 in virtual currency 🌺Collected Nightglows are Displayed at the Festival

🐠 Pond Protectors: Taming the Tides of Tetras

Evergreen Terrace’s peaceful blue ponds teem with invasive species. These twin disaster fish came from another world, but somehow, the concepts of cryptocurrency and whatever the hell NFTs are found their way into these creatures' bloodstreams, forever augmenting these once-somewhat-innocent animals with very problematic traits.

Workers and residents within Magisteria have a lot of other things to worry about, so they haven't been totally pro-active in dealing with the fish. But the Otherworlders are starting to say and do things which make the natives feel the path of least resistance has gone on long enough.

Otherworlders are now being tasked with helping to reduce the population(s) of these invasive and extremely dubious financial-themed fish. By magical and/or technological means, Otherworlders can take a multi-pronged approach to dealing with the fish.

Objective: Deal with the cryptofish and the NFTs by any means necessary. Route them and send to restaurants, encourage Rhea'li to go fish them, feed them to the Sea Bears, use water magic against them, tear down the pellet machines.

Reward: 💰3000 in virtual currency 🐠All you can eat seafood buffet at any restaurant in High Rise Village or Eden 6! Maybe other stuff depending on the approaches PCs take.

📕 Help Wanted

The being who rules over the Library presents an aura of omnipotence within this arena, but it insinuates it could use some help. After all, Otherworlders do have various talents. What does the Librarian need help with?

Objective: The books sometimes try to fly apart/away. Meticulous organizational assistance is always welcome. Technological assistance is valued for updating the Library’s internal systems as well. Debugging and applying the special algorithms.

Reward: 📚free books for your personal library in Magisteria! Number/kind depends on levels of service. Also, 💰500/week.

🌶️ The Spicy Side of Tech [18+]

🐝 Digital Flora After Dark
At night, the digital greenhouse is also thrumming with cybernetic sex pollen. Yes, we are going there. Only at night, only under specific lunar events, and there are ample warnings, so no PCs are caught unawares unless they’re spectacularly oblivious!

The Digital Flora Dome is known as a haunt of thirsty tech faeries, as well as some of the OG sort who enjoy mingling.

🍸 The Ultimate Verve Party

Hosted within the ultra-exclusive underground of Eden 6. It’s the lowest level of The Fountain, the ultimate Verve and drinks party. Which also sometimes doubles as a giant orgy. A lot of the local creatures of the night are fans, but many an average citizen can be found here, too. What happens under the covers of darkness, after all.

No rewards for the above quests. They are their own rewards.

🕹️ Magisteria Arcade

In the arcade world of Magisteria, Kira Kairos dominates. PCs may remember her from the first TDM, where a challenge involved squaring off against one of the girls from her former squad, Cassady. Turns out, Kira is actually fascinated by Otherworlders. What is this Synthesis deal? If it is so awesome, she should be able to do it, so what is special about Otherworlders?

Objective: Kira challenges you to find and defeat her former squad members ASAP. There are four. For each one defeated, Kira awards 💥 500 skill points, which means one's ability in arcade games will increase exponentionally.

Second challenge? 🎮 Fix all the arcades in Magisteria. Should gamers do this, they can win a chance to train under Kira.

Reward: Skill points and a chance to train under the gamer legend herself and perhaps learn the secret of why she’s so spectacular. It turns out she has a specific ability and specific technique that makes her so competent at gaming and sets her up for success with her other goals.
