He pauses to give the other male a look brimming with annoyance and exasperation. In fairness, they're probably right. Maybe these things change colour to indicate toxicity. That's a typical trait he's noticed creatures develop when left to natural selection. However--

"I don't think they would have let us walk through here with nary a warning if they were that dangerous."
